ACADEMIC RULES & REGULATIONS

DIPLOMA COURSES (effective from 8-9-2002)

  1. A student is required to have passed the 12th standard (H.S.C.) examination at least with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics for an admission into the first semester of Post H.S.C. Diploma course in engineering, and the 10th Standard (S.S.C.) examination with Science & Mathematics for an admission into the first semester of a Post S.S.C. diploma course in engineering; from Gujarat Higher Secondary / Secondary Education Board or any other recognised and equivalent examination Board.
  2. The minimum duration of a Post H.S.C. diploma course will be 2.5 years, divided equally into the five number of semesters and that for post S.S.C. diploma courses will be three years, but 2.5 years for the students having passed the H.S.C. examination.
  3. Admission to various semesters will be governed by the following conditions:
    Admission to Condition

    Sem. II Satisfactorily kept the term in sem.I
    Sem. III Satisfactorily kept the term in sem.II &
    passed the sem.I
    Sem. IV Satisfactorily kept the term in sem.III &
    passed the sem.II
    Sem. V Satisfactorily kept the term in sem.IV &
    passed the sem.III
    Sem. VI Satisfactorily kept the term in sem.V &
    passed the sem.IV

    i.e. the student will be eligible for the admission into a higher semester provided that he/she has satisfactorily kept the term in the preceding semester/s and passed the semester before yester-semester.

  4. To become eligible for the award of a Diploma in Engineering, a student shall be required to pass five/six semester examinations as the case may be with reference to DR 2.
  5. A student shall be deemed to have satisfactorily kept the term for any of the semesters if having
    (i) the attendance of at least 75%,
    (ii) carried out the prescribed laboratory work, term-work & other curricular assignment satisfactorily in every concerned subject, &
    (iii) shown good conduct & character ;

    otherwise he/she

    (a) shall have to repeat the semester
    (b) shall not be allowed to enter into the next semester; &
    (c) shall not be permitted to appear in the examination concerned & in the event of his/her appearance, his name shall be deemed to be cancelled from the list of the students for the examination.

  6. In every concerned subject of a semester, there shall be three compulsory sessional exams, the average marks of them plus the maximum 10% of the total sessional marks for the attendance in theory classes will be considered as the total SESSIONAL marks. If a student does not appear in any one of the three sessional exams of a subject on account of illness, he/she may be permitted to appear for the Block sessional exam., which is conducted at the end of the third sessional exam., & it will cover the entire syllabus of the subject.
  7. The term-work, practical & sessional exams. will be assessed by the teachers of the institute. However the practical examinations in the subject/semester meant for the award of class & the theory examinations in every semester will be conducted & assessed jointly by the panel of internal & external examiners appointed by the institute.
  8. If a student fails to pass first two semesters within first four consecutive years, he/she will have to discontinue his / her study at this University and his / her admission will be treated as cancelled.
  9. To pass each of the Diploma semester I to V/VI examinations, a student must have passed all the subjects in the respective semester.A subject may contain upto four heads of passing i.e. theory, sessional, practical (including oral) & term work.
  10. To pass a subject-examination a student is required to obtain minimum 40% of the maximum marks separately in each head of the passing viz. Theory, Sessional, Practical (including the oral) & Term-work as the case may be, OR minimum 30% of the maximum marks separately in each head of passing provided the total obtained is the minimum 45% of the maximum marks for the subject.A student has to apply with the payment of the requisite fees for the rechecking of result within seven working days from the date of declaration of the result.
  11. A CLASS will be awarded only after passing the final-semester examination.
  12. The student will be declared to have passed the final examination leading to the award of Diploma in Engineering in First Class with Distinction OR First Class OR Second Class as the case may be, provided he/she passes all the theory & practical exams of all the concerned subjects together in each of the last three semesters. Also a class will be awarded according to the following table based on the percentage of the marks obtained by the student, calculated on the basis of the last three semesters taken together :Required % Corresponding class for award of Degree66 % or more First class with Distinction
    60 % or more but less than 66 % First class
    45 % or more but less than 60 % Second class

    In all the other cases he/she will be declared to have passed the examination in PASS class.

  13. The student will be permitted to reappear in theory & practical examinations of all the subjects only in each of the last three semesters to become eligible for securing the class, provided he/she has failed in theory & / OR practical examination of one or more subjects in the concerned semester, in which case the passing marks of sessional & term- work will be carried forward.
  14. No admission in the Semester I will be granted after the end of the first sessional exam.No transfer will be granted in even semesters in any case from other colleges/institutions.Transfer from other colleges/institutions will be granted in semester III & V only, provided that he/she has been admitted before the end of the first sessional exam with the condition that the student shall be required to pass the subjects (of the preceding semesters of the Institute) which are not passed by him/her at the Institution from where he/she has migrated.
  15. In any case where the result of an examination has been ascertained & published & it is found that such result has been affected by any malpractice, fraud or any other improper conduct whereby a student has been benefitted, and that such student has, in the opinion of the vigilance committee been party or privy to, or connived at such malpractice, fraud or improper conduct, the vice-chancellor shall have power at any time, not withstanding the issue of a certificate or the award or prize or scholarship, to amend or cancel the result of such student or punish such conduct by exclusion of such student from the university/college examination of any other constituent centre or from any convocation for the purpose of conferring degree/diplomas either permanently or for specified period, or by the deprivation of any university scholarship held
    by him/her, or by the cancellation of the award of any university prize or medal to him/her or any two or more of the aforesaid ways and to make such declaration as the vice-chancellor may consider necessary in that behalf.
