SUMMARY OF TRAINING COURSES CONDUCTED
Preamble
The size of Indian Chemical Industry is estimated at US$ 35 billion approximately which is 3% of Indian GDP. The total investment in Chemicals & Petrochemicals sector is approximately, US $ 60 billion.
Gujarat has witnessed rapid industrialization in the last two decades. It has secured the top slot in the industrial growth amongst the states in India. There has been paradigm shift in sectorial development. Gujarat has evolved as hub for chemicals and petrochemicals industries. In fact GUJARAT has become the PETRO CAPITAL of the COUNTRY as this is one of the fastest growing sectors in the State’s economy. Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals under the chemicals & fertilizer ministry has signed memorandum of agreement with the Government of Gujarat to set up a petroleum, chemicals and petrochemicals investment region(PCPIR) in the state at Dahej with proposed investment of 50,000 crore generating 190 K direct employment.
Hence, developing the man power on a massive scale for this sector is the prime issue as realized by the Industries & Mines Department , Government of Gujarat The need for better quality and skilled technical manpower is increasing and will continue to increase in time to come. The Industries and Mines Department government of Gujarat , has decided to tackle this issue and took proactive approach through the industry responsive training and skill development programmes for technical man power.
We are pleased to inform you that INDUSTRIES & MINES DEPARTMENT, GOVERNMENT OF GUJARAT entrusted DHARMSINH DESAI UNIVERSITY to take up the challenge to be an ANCHOR INSTITUTE for the fastest growing Chemicals & Petrochemicals sector of the state. Its Partners are L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad as Co Anchor Institute, N. G. Patel Polytechnic, Ahva, and ITI Ankleshwar as Nodal Institutes
Objective:
The objective of the Anchor Institute and its partners is to take various initiatives in creating readily employable and industry responsive Man Power, at all level for chemicals & Petrochemicals across the State. This includes preparing Course curriculum and benchmarking and Training for the Trainers/Faculties.
Past Activities:
Anchor Institute – Chemicals & Petrochemicals Sector has successfully organized and conducted the first 30 hours training course on MATLAB-November 09 to 13, 2009 for the faculty members of various Technical Institutes of the state. 35 faculty members of various Degree and Diploma Engineering Institutes and 14 post graduate students of Chemical Engineering took benefit this training course.
Our major tasks a head :
· Identifyingthe training & skill development areas/programmes as per the need of theindustries in Gujarat state at ITI, Diploma & Degree Level.
· Designingand organizing and conducting the training programmes and preparation of theircourse materials.
· Organizingfaculty development programmes (training for trainers) for conducting thesetraining programmes through the Nodal Institutes.
· Supervisionand assistance to the Nodal Institutes to run training programmes.
· Benchmarkingof these training programmes.
· Upgrading the Courses offered in Chemical & Petrochemical Engineering andmake them Industry responsive.
· Identifyingnew and emerging area in this field.
· Trainingthe students at different levels (SUCs, ITI, Polytechnics and Degree Colleges)

· Unemployedtechnical manpower having completed the formal study
· Technicalmanpower already in job
· Faculty members of the technical institutions
· students of Technical Institutions
